a bit of sunshine
There's finally a bit of sunshine in our lives. Not that our skies were grey, but with all the stress and everything, it's finally starting to be more positive, less stress even if not entirely gone.
Chichi signed the lease Thursday and the turnover was yesterday (Friday), we got 1 key, the other should be coming later today (Saturday). We'll be getting the second key as well as 2 mailbox keys.
We went through the condo today, marking down a checklist of appliances and furnishing already there. As well as verifying the condition of everything, so if there's anything already in non excellent condition, we won't be blamed for having wrecked it when our contract expires. There were a few problem areas, paint peeling off the washroom ceiling, scuff marks on the walls, door chippings, cracks in the walls. Mouman always tells me I could find a needle in a haystack, since I can find the littlest things. It came in very handy!
The landlord bought us some dishes and pillows as a welcome home gift.
We're checking out of the hotel on Monday, that way we will have a bit of time to get things in order. We need bed sheets, towels, and internet, anything else we can buy as we go along. Chichi will see if he can't expense it, since it's all things we need but obviously couldn't bring with us from back home.
We'll be shopping this weekend, so many things to get!
Chichi was finally contacted by his future employer, and they want him to fly to Manila for Monday, the 10th 9am... which won't be possible. We'll see if he can't go on Tuesday instead, otherwise it'll have to wait until next month.
We went to get our visa extended on Wednesday, Rose came with us. She works with Chichi, she's been so helpful to us since day 1. She's helped us above and beyond, to look for a place to stay, for inquiries in regards to internet and now for the visa extension. Both our visas extensions were approved! I've extended it until the 7th of January, Chichi was able to extend his for 2 months. Technically, it's 1 month and then 1 more month, so that he could apply for his I-card which is what you get before the ARC (alien card). I would've applied for mine too, but we didn't bring enough money so we decided that I'll come back next month to extend it again, I've asked Rose to come back with me. I think I might've posted wrong in one of my previous posts. The I-card you get after 59day, he'll be receiving it next month. And the ARC (it might be ACR, too tired to look it up right now), you get after 6mths.
After our time at the BI, we went to look at internet, Rose assisted us. First to Globe, then to PLDT. I knew that Globe has an extra requirement for foreigners to get an account with them, I had found it on their website, but couldn't find anything on PLDT's website. All was answered. We took a cab to PLDT and inquired about the services they offer as well as pricing. It's all great. Only catch, they only open accounts for locals. If you're a foreigner, you can't open an account. The rep told us the workaround, have a local open the account for you, but of course then the account would be in their name. It's a risk for them to take it, because if the foreigner doesn't pay, the local is stuck with a 2 or 3 year contract. If you want a fibre connection, it's a 36mth contract. If you want broadband, it's a 24mth contract. The broadband is really pricey for the same Mbps speed as the fibre. You can take a 36mth contract, and if you cancel before the 36mths, then you need to pay the modem price, the installation charge, as well as the monthly billx3. The one we were looking at was P1899, so 1899x3+installation+modem = close to P 9900 (close to $250 cad) which might not seem like too much, but when you calculate everything else we need to pay for, and the total allocation we have for utilities, it's pretty expensive. Also, the fact that we wouldn't be able to open our own account, it's not something we would want to impose on Rose (who's been nothing but perfect with us). We won't be dealing with PLDT, which is just as good since their office in the city is pretty far from where we'll be staying. Whereas Globe is right across the street in Abreeza Mall.
We will settle for Globe and 15mbps. We have the choice to opt-out of the lock-in, which if we can afford, I think we'll do. Even if we take with lock-in though, it's a 24mth period which is totes fine for us.
I'm so excited and eager to move in to our new condo!!
We have a gym, an infinity pool and a garden. The gym and pool are open from 6am - 10pm every day, except for Mondays when the pool is closed for maintenance.
Pictures will be coming soon!! But for now, I will post pics of the "not so excellent conditions" just so I don't lose them in my cell. Two years is a long time, at least this way they'll be easier to find (let's hope lol).

A video I took of all the above pictures as well as other defects/nicks:
